I created two double-sided, paper-mache, masks, one for Erik and the other for Raoul. One side of the mask is the literal masks that they both wore (Raoul had his at the masquerade ball) and the other side shows there the inner character. To make the masks I used colored pencils, paper, chains, and glue to make the masks. I used the literal mask symbols to describe several themes in the book. Such themes include the themes of horror, the masking of appearances, and appearance and reality. The masks accompany a background that helps emphasize the themes as well.
